The international year of fruits and vegetables

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) has declared 2021 the International Year of Fruit and Vegetables. With this, the international community wants to emphasise the role of fruit and vegetables in human nutrition and food security.

The organisation wants to increase worldwide attention for the positive health effects of vegetables and fruit and promote a diversified and balanced diet. In addition, it raises awareness of food loss and waste. Sustainable production and consumption of fruit and vegetables is the focus throughout the year.
